Cookie Recipe
Most families have a few recipes that are handed down from generation to generation. Slight variations are usually made through the years, but the basic recipe stays the same. This is particularly true of cookie recipes.
A Family Favorite Cookie Recipe
Even if your family doesn't have a favorite cookie recipe that's been handed down from generation to generation, you can experiment and make up your own. Besides, your grandmother's favorite cookie recipe might not be all that accurate. Sometimes grandmas use a coffee cup instead of a standard measuring cup, and when asked to write certain recipes down, it's tough to do. They measure using "about this much" flour or sugar, an egg or two, a pinch of this, a dash of that, etc. So there's often a lot of guesswork involved.
If you have a favorite cookie recipe that you hope to send through the next generation or two of your family, do your future generations a favor and try to write down accurate measurements. This will ensure accuracy and good taste. This is easier if you start with a basic, yet classic, cookie recipe (like the Toll House Cookie recipe) and make modifications of your own. For example:
- Try using a tablespoon of vanilla instead of a teaspoon
- Try using one egg instead of two
- Play with the amounts of sugar and brown sugar
- Instead of semisweet chocolate chips, use milk chocolate chips or a mixture of the two
- Add a grated chocolate bar
These are just a few ideas to get you started on a cookie recipe that's unique for your family and will provide tasty cookies for generations to come.
